Winter Training Series II

Twelve GPL members took to the field at the Desert Training Series II on March 7th and 8th, 2009 – with many of the same players returning for this second of three series. As before, the morning started with a “chalk talk” session – this week’s topic: “Effectively Riding Off An Opponent”

For some, however, it was their first time playing in the desert with the GPL. On Saturday, Roberto Ezzavalli, Timothy Melendez and Rolf Johnson successfully participated and looked like pros out on the field. Every player advanced under the watchful eyes and by the skillful coaching of the professional polo players - Theo, Heather and Negro. Each player received instruction on techniques and strategy from the coaches.

Sunday chukkers continued the plan by stepping up the pace. "B" players Chip and Greg paired with two pros on each team and played chukkers under tournament conditions. These were fast games and really presented a sample of what it is like to play in sanctioned tournaments. "C" players Tom and Jimmy, as well as intermediate player Hal played under similar conditions. Everyone agreed that "playing up" certainly upped their game.
