Winter Training Series I

Against a backdrop of snow capped mountains and under desert blue skies, GPL began its 2009 Winter Training Series on February 21st. Held at an 80-acre private polo facility in Indio, California, eight GPL members paired with high goal pros and Orange County Polo Club (OCPC) members for a day of polo.

Heather Schuberth, OCPC's General Manager, organized teams to play eight chukkers on the outdoor field. For several GPL members, it as their first time playing on grass. In the end, everyone adjusted quickly and were in the mix hooking opponents, riding off advancing players and driving the ball through the goal! Playing with polo players they did not know gave everyone an opportunity to assess their progress made though the GPL's unique Developing Riders and Players program.

The GPL would like to extend a special thanks to the professional polo players for generously coaching and playing with us. Specifically, Heather, Negro, Etienne, Caroline Ainer, Jessica Bailey and Gina Park.

The 2009 Winter Training Series continues with chukkers scheduled for March 7 & 8.
